The Robotics Team recently hosted two competitions at Blair and brought STEM lessons to an elementary school. The students shared updates in their 2025 Winter Newsletter.
December 7, 2024: Bunnybots!
This year, we hosted our 8th Blair Bunnybots, which was another exciting and rewarding experience for our team! As always, we had the honor of bringing together teams from across the community to compete, share ideas, and enjoy robotics. Both of our robots were functional. Rookies had the chance to get hands-on experience with design, programming, and troubleshooting, preparing them for future challenges.
This year, we had 13 teams and 15 robots compete, and we hope more join us next year!
Bunnybots remains a fantastic opportunity to learn, compete, and connect with the robotics community. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
November-December: STEM Fairs
Our first cycle of STEM Fairs ran from November 7th to December 5th, with different lessons each Tuesday.
It was both a fun and rewarding experience to have the opportunity to teach at Rolling Terrace Elementary Schools throughout November and December. Although our classes have ended for now, we look forwards to teaching STEM at more schools in the future!
During our first week, students learned about and extracted DNA from strawberries.
Our second week had students build their own snap circuits.
Our third week involved building spaghetti towers and exploring engineering.
Our fourth week was very on brand with the season! We talked about math and symmetry, then helped the students make their own paper snowflakes.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered!
January 12, 2025: First Lego League Tournament
This year, we hosted our first FLL tournament, the Montgomery County Qualifier on Jan 12, welcoming 24 teams.
Our mentors and students worked tirelessly to create a smooth, competitive, and collaborative environment, overcoming challenges while ensuring every match was a learning opportunity. Teams constantly refined their strategies, shared ideas, and embraced the spirit of friendly competition, strengthening their skills and character. Ideas bounced around the pits, fostering innovation and camaraderie.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered and made this event a success!
