Magnet Foundation News: Spring 2010

In the first few months of 2010, the Foundation focused its efforts on the MCPS Budget:

• • In December 2009, Superintendent Weast proposed a 2010 MCPS Budget including significant cuts to the Magnet Program

  • The Foundation encouraged the Magnet Community to write letters or testify about the budget cuts.

  • The Foundation Board wrote a letter to the Board of Education highlighting cuts to special programs.

The Foundation Board is also working on several ongoing projects:

• • Mr. Bunday is volunteering with math teachers at Parkland Middle School.

  • The Foundation is working with the Harvard VCO to expand its fundraising efforts.

  • The Foundation is planning a series of presentations and lectures on June 19th to organize alumni in support of the Magnet Program. Contact alumni@mbhsmagnet.org for more information.

  • The Board has approved funding for the 2010 ACSL All-Star Team.
