Magnet News: Fall 2010
Even during summer vacation, Magnet students were winning awards:
A team of Magnet students won first place at the TeraGrid 2010 Student-Programming Contest. The winning team was comprised of Jacob Hurwitz, David Kaufman, Lori Kaufman, and Charlie Pasternak.
Alexander Bae '10, who was SGA President during his senior year, received a $2,000 college scholarship awarded by W.R. Grace and Company of Columbia.
Anand Oza '10 won a silver medal at the 41st International Physics Olympiad in Zagreb, Croatia.
Michael Cohen '10 won a gold medal at the 22nd International Olympiad in Informatics in Waterloo, Canada.
40 Blair Seniors were recognized as National Merit Scholar Semifinalists.
Also, one Magnet junior earned honors on the baseball field last spring:
During the Spring 2010 baseball season, Lucas Babinec '11, surpassed two 30-year old Blair High School records: best batting average for a season (.516) and most hits in a season (32). The previous records were set in 1980 by current Blair head baseball coach and PE teacher, John MacDonald. He was recognized by the Gazette as an Honorable Mention for the All-Gazette Baseball Team.
