Five Year Update: The Class of 2009

Compiled by Arlene Gao '09 and Ben Shih '09

On December 27, 2014, the Magnet Class of 2009 organized a five-year reunion. More than 70 members of the class shared a quick update on where they are and what they are doing. Arlene Gao and Ben Shih compiled the updates and distributed them to their classmates. Arlene is a PharmD student at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and Ben is a graduate student at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. Their classmates are all over the world doing many different things.

Almost half of the respondents (34) were still in school, with 14 in graduate school, 9 in medical school, and others in pharmacy school, law school, dental school, and music school. Of those in the workforce, a majority (21) were working in software, while a others were in engineering, consulting, finance, and accounting. 3 members of the Class of 2009 work at Google, and 2 work at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Other members of the class work at Microsoft, Facebook, Foursquare, and Activision Blizzard. 20 alumni live in Maryland, but almost as many (17) now live in California. Two members of the class are in Europe, and one lives in Asia. Alumni from the Class of 2009 can be found in 16 states and the District of Columbia, as shown on this nifty map (click to expand):
