Magnet News: Spring 2023

Science Fairs:

• Julia Gelfond and Sudhish Swain were named ISEF Finalists at the Montgomery Science Fair

  • Christy Li was the First Alternate ISEF Finalist

  • Arjun Samavedam won the Community Innovation Award

  • Gugan Thuduppathy won the National Geographic Cultivating Empathy for the Earth Award 

  • Yunyi Ling won the Regeneron Biomedical Science Award

• At ISEF 2023, Julia Gelfond won a 2nd Place Award in Chemistry, and Sudhish Swain won a Fourth Award in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

• At National JSHS 2023, Christy Li won the 2nd Place Oral Presentation Award for Physical Sciences

Team Competitions:

• The Robotics Team finished the 2023 season with several awards in District events and competed at the 2023 FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas.

• The Science Olympiad Team won 2nd place at the Maryland Science Olympiad Tournament.

• The Chess Team won the Metro Area Chess League Title.

More Awards:

• Blair students won semi-finalist and Honorable Mention awards in the MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge. (@davidstein65)

• Blair students were finalists in the Actuarial Foundation Modeling the Future Challenge.

• Several students won Ruth and Norman Rales-Patricia Baier O’Neill Scholarships for academic excellence.

• Viveka Sinha won a Governor's Youth Service Award.

• Kevin Wu won a Bronze Medal as part of the winning USA Team at the Romanian Master of Mathematics.

• Yunyi Ling qualified for the 2023 US Chemistry Olympiad Study Camp.
