Alumni News: Spring 2015
The Class of 2004 at the Montgomery County Science Fair: In appreciation of their Magnet education and in support of budding young scientists, the Blair Magnet Class of 2004 contributed over $1,200 to sponsor a community award at the Montgomery County Science Fair on March 14, 2015. Thirty middle and high school students received cash prizes, pies, and certificates of recognition from the Class of 2004 for their outstanding scientific accomplishments (pdf). Other Magnet classes are encouraged to continue this tradition in the future!
Many alumni have made headlines in the past few months:
Jeremy Ackerman '92 won the 2015 Georgia Tech Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and BP America Award for Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence.
Ming Tomayko '93 was recognized by the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) with a 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award. (pdf)
Tung-Hui Hu '94 is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Michigan, and he was interviewed in March about his education and his writing.
Aaron Klein '94 is Director of the Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative at the Bipartisan Policy Center, and he recently commented on Janet Yellen's testimony before Congress and GE's decision to reduce the size of its banking business.
Gautam Mukunda '97 appeared on Jeopardy! March 24-25th.
Jacob Hurwitz '10 joined DropBox in February.
Sarah McMillian '11 won a Fulbright Grant to Bahrain.
Alan Du '14 won the Jerrold J. Katz Young Scholar Award at the 2015 CUNY Conference on Human Sentence Processing.
