Teacher Retirements:
Mr. Donaldson and Ms. Dvorsky are retiring at the end of the school year.
There will be a retirement celebration on June 7th at Mr. Bunday's house. Please see this flyer for details.
Several seniors continued to win awards for their Senior Research Projects:
Blair's Intel Finalists, seniors Shaun Datta, Neil Davey , and Jessica Shi, were interviewed by the Washington Post: Montgomery Blair High School leads the nation in Intel science finalists. Shaun won 10th place and a $20,000 scholarship.
Seniors Daniela Ganelin, Neil Davey, and Jessica Shi won ISEF Awards after winning their respective categories at the 2014 Montgomery County Science Fair. Shaun Datta also won his category and was the first alternate. Ms. Bosse is accompanying the students at the 2014 Intel ISEF in Los Angeles May 11-16. (pdf)
Other students advanced toward Olympiad teams:
Matthew Das Sarma '15 was selected as a 2014 USACO Finalist. He will attend the USACO 2014 summer training camp and will be eligible to be selected for the 2014 USA Team for the International Olympiad in Informatics.
Alexander Bourzutschky '14 and Catherine Xue '15 qualified for the U.S. Chemistry Olympiad National Exam.
Many students were recognized for other national and local achievements:
Shaun Datta '14 was named one of Bethesda Magazine's 2014 Top Teens.
Maria Yang '15 was named to the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Scholastic Honors Team. U.S. Figure Skating made a donation to the Magnet Foundation on Maria's behalf. She was interviewed by Silverchips along with other Magnet student athletes.
Alex Wiebe '15 won 3rd place at 2014 ABA Young Birder of the Year Contest.
Aanchal Jori '14 and Huey Shih '14 were selected as semifinalists in the 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
Dennis Yang '15 won top honors in the 8th Congressional District in the 33rd annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students.
Teachers and administrators were also recognized for their accomplishments:
Mr. Fowler received a Distinguished Educator Award from the National Center for Women & IT. Ariel Fromm '17, Stephanie Rager '15, and Victoria Tsai '16 each won awards for Aspirations in Computing.
Principal Renay Johnson was named MCPS Outstanding Principal of the Year by the National Board of Certified Teachers.
