As the MCPS budget is cut, the Foundation is supporting more and more grants for Magnet programs. For the first time in the Foundation's history, grant awards are expected to exceed donations this year. The grants will be funded with accumulated donations from previous years, but please consider making a donation to the Foundation this year to help us balance our budget. At the fall meeting of the Board of Directors, the following grants were approved:
$870 to send Ms. Bosse and Ms. Duval to present at the National Consortium of Specialized STEM Schools 2015 Professional Conference (photo on Twitter).
$356 to purchase software and hardware for the Piano Lab expansion
$960 to upgrade Minitab statistics software
$850 for the annual MagPi event (photos on Twitter)
$1000 to support the Trans-Atlantic Science School trip to Fermilab.
$800 to support the annual Middle School Math tournament organized by the Math Team.
$800 for VoiceBase transcription services of lecture videos.
Donate: You can donate to the Foundation to help fund these grants.
Consultants: MCPS has recently hired consultants to study MCPS Special Programs. The Foundation is interested in commissioning its own study to provide a balanced perspective on the Magnet Program. If you have any experience in non-profit or educational consulting or can provide advice or a referral, please contact the Foundation Board at board@mbhsmagnet.org.
